When it comes time to change the oil in you classic car equipped with a flat tappet cam you need to think about Zinc.
Whats Zinc and Why Do I Want it In My Oil?
Zinc or to be more specific, Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP), is the primary anti-wear agent in the fight against flattened cam lobes and excessive wear. Flat-Tappet camshafts are prone to excessive wear because of their design as during operation cam lobes slide across flat lifters in order to activate the rest of the valve train. This operation creates high amounts of friction and temperatures, this operation is repeated thousands of times a second while your motor is running. A thin film of oil is all that stops metal to metal contact from happening. The addition of a large amount of ZDDP will help save your expensive motor build.
How AMSOIL Z-ROD Oil Can Help Your Valuable Classic Motor?
AMSOIL Z-ROD oil is specially formulated for the demands of classic cars with or without flat tappet cams. Looking at the concerns we talked about earlier with flat tappet camshafts Z-Rod oil has a very high ZDDP content (1440 PPM). This very high ZDDP content in conjunction with AMSOIL’s other high quality anti-wear additives create an amazing oil to reduce or even eliminate wear in even the most grueling of conditions.
Another special benefit of AMSOIL Z-ROD oil is the anti-rust and corrosion additives found within. Lets face it we aren’t able to drive our classic cars as much as we would like. As a result they tend to sit longer then any other vehicle we own. This leads to metal inside the engine to loose that protective film of oil as it sits. AMSOIL Z-ROD oil however has unique blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors that actually cling to and coat the internal metal surfaces. Take a look below at two pieces of metal that were subjected to the same 192 hours in humidity cabinets. The top piece was treated with Z-ROD while the other piece was treated with a leading competitors oil.
It’s What We Use In Our Classics
From our 69 Dodge Charger equipped with a big block 440 to our 87 Chrysler 5th Avenue with a 318, we only use AMSOIL Z-ROD oil in our classics. For all the reasons above it just makes sense to use AMSOIL Z-ROD oil in your classic vehicle.
