Prolong the Life of Your Air Cooled Motorcycle

With the recent class action lawsuit against Harley Davidson (link), the way in which heat effects the service life of air cooled engines is at the forefront of the news.  Even before that ruling you can combat these extreme wear situations with AMSOIL!

Before a lawsuit was ever even a thought AMSOIL conducted a heat study with a Harley Davidson Dyna.  The tests were performed on a dyno with no air moving across the motor and the bike under load, a combination which would be impossible in the real world.  AMSOIL went as far as to disable heat sensors that are designed to keep the motor from over heating.  During this test temperatures rose to 550 degrees; normal operating temperatures are 280-300 degrees.

After the test AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil was still protecting the engine to almost the same levels as unused oil.  As seen in the test footage below, the main wear particles in an engine (iron, lead, and copper) showed 3, 0, and 4.5 Parts Per Million (PPM) respectively.  Also, the oil showed a less than 7% oxidation level which means that the oil still is able to effectively clean the engine as designed.  So, even after this extreme test the oil could still be used in the engine with no performance loss.

As mentioned in a previous blog (Link) AMSOIL now sells this excellent motorcycle protection in easy to order kits.
