Hot Rod magazine has long been a go to source of information for car and truck enthusiasts. Hot Rod recently changed the oil on their 5.7L HEMI powered Dodge Charger (Link). The improvements they found were quite interesting.
The test subject for Hot Rod’s test was 2006 Charger that had already lived a long life as a police vehicle. The car had little less than 35,000 miles on the engine, 20,000 miles since the transmission was replaced and 87,000 miles on the original rear end. The Hot Rod team utilized AMSOIL’s Signature Series 5W-20 motor oil, EA synthetic media oil filter provide which provides up to a 25,000-mile, 700-hour, or one-year service interval; AMSOIL Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic; and AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-140 with a 4-ounce tube of AMSOIL Slip Lock additive. As you can see below they were able to gain 2.6 lb-ft and 4.4 hp! This all while improving gas mileage by almost 1mpg and providing better wear protection.
